Job Description

Designation: Node.js - Backend Engineer

Experience Required: 3 - 5 years

Qualification: BE / B.Tech / M.Tech / MCA or equivalent

Salary: Negotiable

Job Location: New Town, Kolkata

Total Employees: 250+ Members

Working Days: Monday to Friday

We are hiring a Backend Engineer with strong experience in building scalable, event-driven systems using Node.js and Express.

The ideal candidate will design sharded/partitioned PostgreSQL architectures, build Kafka pipelines, and manage distributed background jobs using Redis and BullMQ.

Responsibilities

  • Design scalable PostgreSQL schemas with partitioning/sharding (range/hash/list) ensuring safe migrations and rebalancing.
  • Build Kafka producers/consumers with schema evolution, retries, and idempotent message handling.
  • Create and maintain Redis & BullMQ queues/workers (retries, rate limits, DLQs).
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and observability (metrics, tracing, logs).
  • Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams.
  • Lead development verticals, especially around database and system design.

Tech Stack

  • Runtime: Node.js (TypeScript), Express
  • Database: PostgreSQL (partitioning, replication, pooling)
  • Messaging: Apache Kafka
  • Cache / Queue: Redis, BullMQ
  • Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform (nice to have)

Requirements

  • 3+ years of production experience with Node.js & Express.
  • Strong understanding of database & system design (schema design, indexing, normalization, consistency models).
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL sharding/partitioning and online migrations.
  • Experience designing Kafka topics, partitions, consumer groups, and idempotent processing.
  • Deep knowledge of Redis & BullMQ (concurrency, retries, rate limiting, DLQs).
  • Solid TypeScript/JavaScript coding and testing fundamentals.
  • Experience monitoring and optimizing performance (p95 latency, profiling, connection pools).

Nice to Have

  • Experience with multi-region deployments, logical replication, or pg_partman.
  • Familiarity with migration tools (Prisma, Knex, Flyway, Liquibase).
